A report claims that Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted a two-year suspended prison sentence, on top of paying £16.5m, to end his long-running tax fraud case.

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly accepted a two-year suspended prison sentence after being accused of defrauding the Spanish government.

The 33-year-old, currently away on World Cup duty with Portugal, is also said to have agreed a massive £16.5m fine to put an end to the long-running unpaid tax case.

El Mundo reports that Ronaldo's previous offer of £12.9m was rejected by authorities 12 months ago, but he has upped that figure on top of admitting four charges of fraud.

Under Spanish law, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will not face any time in jail as he has no previous convictions.

Ronaldo is expected to start Portugal's opening World Cup match against Spain in Sochi on Friday evening.
