Joey Barton received death threat during Marseille stint

Joey Barton reveals a death threat letter he received during his time at Marseille.

Queens Park Rangers player Joey Barton has revealed that he received a written death threat during his time at Marseille.

The midfielder posted a photograph of the letter on his Twitter account, making light of the incident by criticising the sender's grammar.

"Not sure what's more offensive, the grammar or the intent," he wrote. "Considering a letter of reply simply saying, 'D'ue Wansum? Cos' if u du I'll give it yeh!'"

The poorly-written note warned Barton that he would be beaten about the head with a baseball bat unless he left Marseille by the end of the 2012-2013 season, which he did as his loan agreement had expired.
