Newcastle fan jailed for punching horse

A Newcastle United supporter has been jailed for 12 months for punching a police horse following last season's Tyne-Wear derby.

Barry Rogerson pleaded guilty to the incident, which occurred outside of the Magpies' home ground St James' Park in April.

As a result, Newcastle Crown Court have given Rogerson a 12-month jail term, as well as a six-year football banning order, according to Sky Sports News.

The supporter's legal representatives have described Rogerson as "extremely embarrassed and ashamed", while also claiming that he had a "large amount to drink" on the day of the incident.
