Peter Lovenkrands: 'Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is a great guy'

Peter Lovenkrands has said that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is a "great guy", despite criticism from fans.

The striker spent four years playing for Newcastle and also enjoyed a spell at Rangers, who Ashley also has interests in, and believes that the businessman is very down to earth despite his unpopularity amongst supporters.

He told reporters: "He was a great guy, I got on really well with him. He was one of those chairman who came to socialise with the players. We had a really good time with him at Newcastle."

Lovenkrands scored 19 league goals during his time at St James' Park.
