Murray Walker believes that it is "utter madness" that Lewis Hamilton is allowed to take his dog Roscoe into the paddock during Formula 1 races.

Semi-retired Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker has admitted that he is "amazed" that Lewis Hamilton is allowed to take his pet dog Roscoe to races.

The Mercedes driver has a pass, which was approved by F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, for the bulldog to be in the paddock during the course of the season.

"I have the utmost respect and admiration for Lewis, but the F1 paddock is no place for a dog," Walker told the Daily Mail.

"Think of the safety reasons. Think, too, of how a dog's hearing system is infinitely more sensitive than a human's, and my hearing has been destroyed by F1 cars.

"I am utterly amazed he's allowed to take the dog in. Whoever said that was OK should be drummed out of the Brownies. I can't imagine what the hell they are thinking about. It's utter madness."

Hamilton was given the pass for Roscoe in March.
