Hamilton beats 'Top Gear' record

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton broke the record on BBC Two show Top Gear last night by clocking the fastest time in the 'Star In A Reasonably-Priced Car' challenge.

The 28-year-old did the fastest lap of 1:42.9s, beating world champion and Hamilton's Formula 1 Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel.

When the time was revealed, Hamilton responded: "Wow, Holy crap, I'm really surprised."

Hamilton's last lap on the show, which was in 2007, resulted in a time of 1:44.7s.
