Former Manchester United player Jack Crompton dies, aged 91

Manchester United announce that former player and coach Jack Crompton has passed away at the age of 91.

Manchester United have announced the passing of former player and coach Jack Crompton at the age of 91.

Crompton spent an 11-year playing career with the Red Devils following his debut for the club in January 5, 1946.

Following his retirement from playing, Crompton took on a new role within coaching by working under Matt Busby for nine years, and eventually experiencing seven years as the club's reserves manager.

"As part of Matt Busby's first trophy-winning team, Jack's place in United's history is guaranteed," United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward told the club's official website.

"But he gave so much more than that to the club. Our thoughts and those of the whole Manchester United family are with Sheila and Jack's family. He will be greatly missed."

Crompton won the FA Cup final in 1948 as well as the league title in 1952 during his playing days.
