Mark Hughes hails Frank Lampard for swapping shirt with bereaved Stoke player

Mark Hughes praises the level of "class" shown by Frank Lampard when the Manchester City midfielder swapped shirts with teen Oliver Shenton, who recently lost his mother.

Mark Hughes has been full of praise for Frank Lampard after the Manchester City midfielder swapped shirts with Stoke City teenager Oliver Shenton, who recently lost his mother.

The 17-year-old made his Premier League debut off the bench in the Potters' 4-1 defeat to the English champions on Wednesday evening.

Shenton took to the pitch just two days after his mother's funeral and Lampard, whose own mother passed away in 2008, had a chat with the youngster after the game before swapping shirts.

"That is a great touch," Hughes told reporters in this morning's press conference. "Obviously Frank has lost close family members as well and maybe that resonated with Frank. I think that shows his class."

Lampard will join up with MLS side New York City at the end of the season.
