Manchester City fans plan UEFA protest against CSKA Moscow

A group of Manchester City supporters are planning to vent their anger at UEFA following the ban that stopped them from attending their side's Champions League match against CSKA Moscow a fortnight ago.

The European governing body forced the two clubs to play their group match behind closed doors in Russia as punishment for the recent poor behaviour of CSKA's fans.

City supporters were not allowed to attend the match, but around 300 home fans were allowed in the stadium after getting hold of press passes and tickets designed for UEFA sponsors.

The 1894 Group are planning to turn their backs to the pitch during the Champions League anthem at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow night when their side take on CSKA.

"It's mainly about the way our fans were treated in Moscow," Alberto Mombelli from 1894 Group told the Manchester Evening News.

"It was even more disappointing when it was obvious that there were CSKA fans at the the game, while our supporters were even stopped from watching it from an office block next to the ground. With UEFA, it's all about sponsors and money, and they don't really care about the fans."

City need to win tomorrow's match in order to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
