Liverpool's Dejan Lovren facing five years in jail for perjury?

A report claims that Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is to appear in court on Tuesday accused of lying about the details of his move from Dinamo Zagreb to Lyon in 2010.

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren will reportedly appear in court next week to answer a perjury charge, which carries a potential five-year jail sentence if he is found guilty.

The 28-year-old is alleged to have given false testimony when called to the stand as part of a football corruption trial.

According to The Sun, Lovren's court date is set for Tuesday and relates to a £14m embezzlement trial of former Dinamo Zagreb manager Zdravko Mamic.

Lovren has been accused of lying about the details of his 2010 switch from Dinamo to Lyon, and public prosecutors in Croatia are seeking clarity.

A public prosecutors' spokesman told the British newspaper: "The county prosecutor's office in Osijek is investigating Dejan Lovren on a suspicion of giving a false testimony."

The Croatia international has been used 21 times by Liverpool in all competitions this season.
