Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard tried his hand at bodyboarding while on holiday in Portugal.

The England skipper was photographed surfing in the sea near the Portuguese resort of Vale do Lobo.

The 33-year-old, who was in Portugal with his wife Alex, took to the water days after his charity golf day, which was in aid of the Steven Gerrard Foundation.

Gerrard is expected to be fit for the start of the 2013-14 campaign for Liverpool after undergoing shoulder surgery.
