Chelsea chase Adrian Mutu compensation

Chelsea and Juventus will go in front of a FIFA panel this week as the Premier League outfit attempt to claim some compensation from their Serie A counterparts for Adrian Mutu.

The Romanian striker was sacked by Chelsea in 2004 after he had tested positive for cocaine. He was handed a seven-month suspension and when that was completed, he signed for Italian side Juve courtesy of an ownership arrangement with Livorno.

However, he has still not paid Chelsea any of the £14.65m compensation that he had been ordered to by the Court of Arbitration for Sport back in 2009.

As a result, the Blues will now attempt to regain some of their money from the two Italian clubs, who they believe benefited from signing the player without the requirement of a transfer fee, before selling him to Fiorentina for a reported £6m.

"We are exercising our legal remedies to recover the amounts owed to us and we will continue to do so," said a Chelsea spokesman.

A verdict is expected to be reached by the end of this week.
