Holgate 'deletes Twitter after homophobic tweets'

Everton defender Mason Holgate appears to have deleted his Twitter account after being accused of making a number of homophobic posts.

On Friday night, Holgate was in the headlines after being involved in an incident with Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, who has been accused of making a racist slur towards Holgate after an exchange in the FA Cup tie between the two clubs.

However, according to The Sun, the 21-year-old has decided to delete his Twitter account after social media users allegedly discovered homophobic posts made from his profile.

The report highlights three posts - two which were made in 2012 and another in 2013 - which were sent to people known to Holgate.

Everton are said to be assessing Holgate's decision to delete his account, with the player now a regular first-team member at the Merseyside club.
