Everton youngster Tom Molyneux has been involved in a motorway car accident and has sustained what is believed to be "minor injuries".

The 18-year-old is thought to have written off his car while travelling on the M57 on his way to the Toffees' training ground, Finch Farm.

"The club confirms that one of our under-18 players was involved in an accident on Saturday morning which did not involve any other vehicle," a club spokesman told the Liverpool Echo.

"He sustained minor injuries and was discharged from hospital on Saturday lunchtime. Tom is a great lad and we obviously wish him a speedy recovery and everyone at the club sends their best wishes to him."

It is understood that the Premier League outfit are monitoring the youngster's condition.
