Everton left-back Leighton Baines turned up at the home of a supporter to surprise him with a season ticket for the Merseyside outfit.
Gordon McKee was visited by the England international after the club picked him in a 'Make Their Day' initiative following a nomination from Gordon's son Andrew.
The lifelong Everton fan worked as a full-time carer for his wife Gillian, who recently lost her five-year battle with a brain tumour.
"We knew what a tough week it's been for Gordon but I am pleased to cheer him up a little bit, as much as you can at a time like this," the Daily Mail quotes Baines as saying. "I am looking forward to seeing him at Goodison next year."
Gordon added: "I had no idea what to expect. I had been out shopping and my family said 'get back home quick', but I didn't expect that, it's the biggest shock of my life."
Baines also presented Gordon with a signed Everton shirt.
