Chelsea return FA Cup 'more damaged than usual'

The FA Cup has had to have around 80 hours of repair work after Chelsea returned the trophy with a "reasonable amount of damage".

The FA allow the winners to keep the cup for the year after it is won and this year Chelsea returned it with more damage than usual, resulting in double the repair work expected.

Kevin Williams, Thomas Lyte's master silversmith, said: "It was pretty well damaged - so many people wanted a piece of it.

"This year it took probably 70 to 80 hours of restoration and polishing, where you would normally allow more like 38 hours to make sure everything's all right."

He added on FATV: "This year there was a reasonable amount of damage, some big creases, and we managed to get it back to the condition that everybody knows it as The FA Cup."

Watch below to see Williams speak more about the restoration process.
