Skating body to investigate failure?

The International Skating Union are reportedly to investigate why nations such as the United States, Canada and Norway performed so badly at the Winter Olympics in the speed skating events.

Twenty-one of the 30 medals so far have gone to the Netherlands, and ISU president Ottavio Cinquanta is said to be looking into why certain competitors failed.

The 75-year-old said that his group wants to know if some countries are "almost sleeping" according to thestar.com. Cinquanta is also quoted by the same report as saying his organisation is "available to spend some money, to invest money - not to give money for free."

Team USA head coach Ryan Shimabukuro has previously revealed that he has been left "frustrated" by the performance of certain athletes in Sochi.
