Joey Barton has revealed that he hopes to meet the Burnley supporter who threw a plastic bottle at his head during a match two years ago.
The 32-year-old, who signed for the Clarets last week, was struck while playing for Queens Park Rangers.
Now that he will be representing the supporter's club, Barton is keen to meet up with the fan to make sure that there is no repeat of the incident.
"The elephant in the room right now is the guy who threw a Coke bottle at my head," the Daily Mail quotes Barton as saying. "At some stage I'd probably like to meet him because he's going to have the opportunity to get me again every other weekend if I don't.
"I'd probably like to meet him to disarm him and to make sure he doesn't throw anything else in my direction. The thing is, it was an unbelievable shot. I was more gutted about the fact that he hit me in the head and I didn't see it coming."
Barton could make his debut after the international break in Burnley's Championship match against Sheffield Wednesday at Turf Moor on September 12.
