Bayern Munich to help 50 Ukrainian children have surgery

Bayern donation to benefit Ukrainian children

Bayern Munich have made a substantial donation to help more than 50 children in Ukraine in need of hospital treatment.

Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced the charitable donation this week prior to the German outfit's goalless draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in last night's last-16 Champions League meeting.

The club's official website confirmed that the gesture includes anaesthesia equipment for the hospital's intensive care unit, as well as a German doctor to perform 60 operations.

Tuesday night's match was played in Arena Lviv, which is 776 miles away from Shakhtar's Donbass Arena, because of the damage caused to the ground as part of the conflict with Russia.
