Lionel Messi's girlfriend gives birth to couple's second son

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has a new addition to his family after his girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo gave birth to the couple's second son.

The four-time Ballon d'Or winner missed this morning's training session with his Catalan club to be with his partner as she gave birth.

While the player himself is yet to announce the news, the 28-year-old's brother Matias Messi took to Twitter to confirm that the child has been born.

Reports in Messi's homeland of Argentina initially claimed that the baby was named Benjamin, but according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, the footballer and his girlfriend have opted for Mateo.

The couple are already parents to one-year-old son Thiago.
