Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina was burgled at his home in North London while his wife Jesica Sterling and their young children slept upstairs.
Thieves swiped the keys to the footballer's £100,000 Mercedes and reportedly took it on a ride across the city.
Ospina was not in the property when the burglary took place as he was in his homeland of Colombia playing in a World Cup qualifier against Peru.
According to the London Evening Standard, Ospina's wife Jesica realised that the family had been robbed when she noticed that a kitchen window had been left wide open and the car keys were missing from a bowl by the front door.
Two suspects, who are alleged to have also taken Ospina's house keys, were caught on CCTV driving the luxury car, which was later found by police abandoned in Wembley Park.
Jesica told the publication: "It's difficult at night. We think that everything was planned because they came to the house through the window and took about 10 minutes maximum and left with the keys. It was strange they didn't look for anything else - just took the keys and went."
Ospina's car is yet to be returned to the family as police continue to investigate the burglary.
