Marti Malloy takes Judo bronze

America's Marti Malloy has claimed the bronze medal from this afternoon's women's 57kg judo event.

Having lost her semi-final contest to Romanian Corina Caprioriu, Malloy was paired in the opening bronze medal contest against Italy's Giulia Quintavalle.

Both competitors appeared nervous during the opening exchanges, with neither keen to put themselves in a position that would be vulnerable to attack.

However, late in the contest, Malloy was awarded the victory ahead of Quintavalle on an ippon.

She is only the second woman from the USA to win a judo medal at the Games.
