Netherlands retain Olympic hockey crown

The Netherlands have successfully defended their Olympic crown in the women's hockey with a 2-0 win over Argentina at the Riverbank Arena.

A quiet opening half was brought to life in the final minute as Argentine goalkeeper Laura del Colle pulled off a double save to keep the game goalless.

However, the Dutch went ahead just five minutes after the break when Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel whacked in the rebound from a penalty corner.

It was 2-0 midway through the half as captain Maartje Paumen's drive from another penalty corner flew into the roof of the net past the outstretched arm of Del Colle.
