England through to semi-finals

England have secured a place in the semi-finals at the men's hockey competition at the Commonwealth Games after beating Canada 3-1 this morning.

In wet conditions in Glasgow, Ashley Jackson opened the scoring for the English side, slicing the ball into the top of the net early on.

England dominated the match, as Barry Middleton added a second with their 17th shot of the morning, while keeper George Pinner remained untested.

Jackson added his second from a penalty corner in the second half to put the result beyond doubt, but Scott Tupper did the same with just a couple of minutes to spare to add a late consolation for the Canadians.

If pool leaders New Zealand, who are unbeaten so far, win their final preliminary match against Malaysia later today, then England will face Australia in the last four.
