Nicola White hails Team England character

Nicole White admits that England should have made life easier for themselves against Scotland, but says that they showed character to hold on.

Team England forward Nicola White has praised her teammates for showing the character to hold on against Scotland earlier today.

Goals from Alex Danson and Susannah Townsend put England in command at the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow, but Nikki Kidd pulled a goal back for the hosts to leave the Delhi 2010 bronze medallists in a perilous position.

A string of fine saves from Maddie Hinch ensured that England recorded a 2-1 victory, however, to book their place in the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games.

"We made it closer than we maybe could have done but sometimes it is just about grinding out the result and especially in front of this crowd on a home ground," White told reporters after the match.

"The semi-finals is where we want to be, then you are in with a chance of the medals with the crowd behind us."

England are likely to face New Zealand in the semis.
