Jones wins Wales's first gold

Wales rhythmic gymnast Francesca Jones has won Wales's first gold of the Commonwealth Games in the individual ribbon event.

The 23-year-old posted a score of 14.500 with her routine to lead the standings early on.

Canada's Patricia Bezzoubenko was trying to make it a clean sweep, having won the three individual events earlier today, but a mistake cost her, leaving her third.

Jones was made to wait as the Canadian submitted an enquiry to the judges over her score, but Bezzoubenko failed to have her score increased, leaving her with the bronze.

Malaysia's Wong San Poh finished second, adding to her bronze medal in the hoop contest earlier.

Jones had already claimed five silvers in Glasgow in what she has said will be her final rhythmic gymnastics competition.
