Frankie Jones: 'Big future for Laura Halford'

Retiring gymnastics hero Frankie Jones tips teammate Laura Halsall for a big future in the sport after her impressive display at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Welsh gymnastics hero Frankie Jones has tipped teammate Laura Halford for "big things to come" in the future after her impressive Commonwealth Games debut.

Jones, 23, won a medal in every single event in her last competition before retirement, capping it off with a gold in the ribbon after five straight silvers in team, individual all-around, hoop, ball and clubs.

Teammate Halford, meanwhile, managed a respectable showing with bronzes in the individual all-round and ball, and Jones believes that she is now perfectly poised to continue Wales's success in gymnastics.

"She's been amazing," Jones told Sports Mole. "For her first big competition, I'm so so proud of her. She's got big things to come. I just hope I can be there for the journey with her."

Jones also took the time to praise her father Colin for his support after he described her as "the most amazing daughter anyone could ever have".

"I love my dad so much," she said. "He's been here every day and I'm so happy that he's managed to come and watch. I just want to go and find him for a hug soon. He's the proudest Welshman ever I think right now!"

Jones has contributed almost half of Wales's medal haul to date, which currently stands at 13.
