Gymnast Daniel Purvis proud of Scottish gold

Gymnast Daniel Purvis expresses his pride at winning gold for Scotland on home soil at the Commonwealth Games.

Scotland gymnast Daniel Purvis has expressed his pride over winning Commonwealth gold in the men's parallel bars event this afternoon.

The 23-year-old posted a winning score of 15.533 to edge out English duo Nile Wilson and Max Whitlock, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.

Consequently, Pervis admits that his emotions almost got the better of him as he stood on the middle of the podium in Glasgow.

"I am so made up with that. It was such an enjoyable final, Frank Baines did fantastically well, I had to go out and do my best and fortunately that landed me a gold medal," he told BBC Sport.

"I almost welled up, my family are here and with the Scottish crowd cheering behind me I was so proud."

The Liverpool-born gymnast had also helped the host nation claim silver in the team event earlier this week.
