Canada edge England for gymnastics gold
Canada beat Team England to gymnastics gold in the final of the women's team event at the Commonwealth Games.

Canada have claimed the gold medal ahead of Team England in the women's gymnastics team final at the Commonwealth Games.

England entered the competition hoping to match the feat of their male counterparts, who took top honours yesterday thanks to standout performances from Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson.

Georgia-Mae Fenton was the top scorer for England today, delivering an impressive 14.600 on the uneven bars, while Taeja James contributed 14.100 thanks to her performance on the floor.

The girls' overall total of 162.650 was narrowly short, however, as Canada took top spot on the podium with a total of 163.075.

Bronze went the way of Australia, whose total of 157.450 was almost 1.500 points ahead of the Wales team.

The session also saw Kelly Simm and Alice Kinsella qualify for the all-around finals.
