Gymnast Whitlock looks to World Championship

England gymnast Max Whitlock is hopeful that his gold medal in the Commonwealth Games can provide him with a "big push" ahead of the World Championships.

The 21-year-old claimed first place in today's all-round event, beating Scotland's Daniel Keatings to the gold with a winning score of 90.631.

This October will see Whitlock head to China looking to better his fourth-place finish in the all-round contest in last year's World Championship, and the youngster says that his Glasgow triumph can propel him to better things this time around.

"Since London 2012 all-around has been a massive target so to pull this off is massive for me," he told BBC Sport.

"It's a big marker for the World Championships; experience-wise and confidence-wise it gives me a big push."

Whitlock's compatriot Nile Wilson finished with a bronze.
