Woody Austin leads the way after day one at the Senior Open Championship courtesy of a four-under 68, putting him one shot clear of seven other golfers.

Woody Austin shot a round of four-under to take the lead after day one of the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie.

The 58-year-old began his championship with a round of 68, giving him a one-shot lead over a cluster of seven other golfers.

Americans dominated the opening day, with Tom Byrum, Scott McCarron, Joe Durant and Mark O'Meara among the chasing pack, alongside Paraguay's Carlos Franco, Mexico's Esteban Toledo and Australian Peter Fowler.

Miguel Angel Jimenez is a shot further back on two-under despite hitting an eagle at the par-five 14th, while two-time Senior Open champion Bernhard Langer went round in 71.

It was a day to forget for Colin Montgomerie, though, as he shot a 76 to sit four-over-par going into the second day.
