Peter Hanson wins BMW Masters

Peter Hanson has won the BMW Masters in Shanghai by a single stroke.

The 35-year-old took a one-shot lead over Rory McIlroy heading into the final round of action on Sunday and staved off the challenge of the Northern Irishman to bag his sixth European Tour victory.

World number one McIlroy eagled the 15th and followed with a birdie at 16 to pull within two strokes of Hanson and put the Swede under late pressure.

However, Hanson held his nerves to win the $1.16m event, although he dropped his only shot of the day at the final hole.

Luke Donald and Ian Poulter finished third and fourth respectively.
