Adam Scott rules himself out of representing Australia at Rio Olympics

Adam Scott not playing Rio Olympics

World number seven Adam Scott has ruled himself out of playing at this summer's Olympics for Australia.

Golf is returning to the Games for the first time since 1904, but Scott has decided not to play in Brazil due to "other commitments".

The 35-year-old said in a statement: "My decision has been taken as a result of an extremely busy playing schedule around the time of the Olympics and other commitments, both personal and professional.

"I have informed the Australian team captain and relevant authorities, who are understanding of my position and I wish the Australian Olympic Team the very best of luck in Rio."

Scott, a former Masters champion, has previously said that winning an Olympic medal was 'nothing he's ever aspired to do' and questioned the 72-hole strokeplay format for what he called "an exhibition event".
