Sullivan wins maiden European tour title

Andy Sullivan has landed his first European Tour title with a playoff victory at the South African Open.

The Englishman came out on top after capitalising on a collapse by Charl Schwartzel, who had a five-stroke lead over the chasing pack with five holes left to play.

Having seen Schwartzel record an 11-under par total, dropping four shots in a final round of 74, Sullivan carded a five-under 67 to set up a playoff.

It was left for the 28-year-old, who led the tournament by one shot at the midway stage, to claim the crown by holing a birdie from 12 feet at the Glendower Golf Club in Johannesburg.

Fellow Englishman Lee Slattery finished one shot adrift in third, while Benavides Pablo Martin ended on three-under par to claim fourth spot.
