Shawn Stefani tops the Tampa Bay Championship at the end of the first round.

Shawn Stefani has claimed an early lead at the Tampa Bay Championship.

The American finished the first round in 65 strokes for a final score of six-under-par to edge out his compatriot Brian Harman.

Harman came in second with 67 strikes for a score of four-under-par, while three of his other countrymen were tied in third place.

Tag Ridings, Brendan Steele and Harris English all finished at three-under with 68 strokes.

Briton Luke Donald came in joint-14th with 11 other golfers after finishing the round with a score of one-under-par.
