Ricardo Santos takes early lead in African Open

Ricardo Santos has recorded a first-round 62 to take an early lead at the Africa Open in East London.

The world number 216 hit nine birdies during a faultless effort on Thursday to move two ahead of a group of players on seven-under-par.

Welshman Rhys Davies and England's Richard Bland both shot rounds of 64, while South African Garth Mulroy produced the same score.

France's Gregory Bourdy sits a shot further adrift, while home favourites Thomas Aiken and Darren Fichardt ended the day on five-under.
