The American had a five-stroke advantage alongside partner Andrew Putnam heading into the final round, but Johnson pulled away when Putnam could only manage a double bogey on the opening green.

Johnson's two-putt birdie at the third put him further in front, before Putnam's sloppiness from close range denied him the opportunity to close in after Johnson had missed at the fifth.

Putnam's 10-foot birdie put him two shots behind his partner soon after, but Johnson produced a 15-foot putt at the 12th, a birdie at the next hole and a 169-yard eagle on the final hole to ensure victory.

Johnson's next tournament will be the US Open, which begins on Thursday.
