Poulter out of Volvo World Match Play Championship

Ian Poulter has crashed out of the Volvo World Match Play Championship after losing by one hole to Thomas Aiken.

Europe's Ryder Cup hero needed a win to progress having fallen to a 3&2 loss to Thongchai Jaidee yesterday.

After twice battling back from two holes down, it was a bogey on the final hole that sealed his fate, as par proved to be enough for the South African to seal his place in the last 16.

There was better news for his Medinah teammate and defending champion Nicolas Colsaerts, who also needed a win to book his place in the next round at Thracian Cliffs.

He defeated Kiradech Aphibarnrat 3&2 and will now play Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, who beat Australia's Brett Rumford, also 3&2.

Scott Jamieson triumphed over Carl Petterson in the morning and Thorbjorn Olesen in the afternoon session to book a clash with Felipe Aguilar.

Elsewhere, there were also wins for Francesco Molinari, Chris Wood and Graeme McDowell.

Last 16:

Branden Grace vs. Brett Rumford Richard Sterne vs. Chris Wood Francesco Molinari vs. Carl Pettersson Shane Lowry vs. Thomas Aiken Scott Jamieson vs. Felipe Aguilar Thongchai Jaidee vs. Peter Hanson Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano vs. Nicolas Colsaerts Graeme McDowell vs. Bo van Pelt
