John Merrick clinches Northern Trust Open

John Merrick has won his first PGA Tour title at the Northern Trust Open with a playoff victory over fellow American Charlie Beljan.

The pair ended the final day tied on 11-under-par at the Riviera Country Club in California following rounds of 69 and 67 respectively.

However, a missed putt for par by Beljan on the second playoff hole saw 30-year-old Merrick claim the victory.

Overnight leaders Fredrik Jacobson and Bae Sang-Moon finished on 10-under and eight-under respectively, while Luke Donald carded a 75 on Sunday to leave him on four-under.
