Lynn storms to Portugal title

David Lynn fired an eight-under-par round on the final day to win the Portugal Masters at a blustery Oceanico Victoria course in Vilamoura.

The Englishman began with two birdie threes before three more on the front nine saw him go out in 30.

He made a first bogey of the day at the 10th but finished with four more birdies to take an early clubhouse lead that in the end was not caught.

Justin Waters made a roaring finish to end on his own in second on 17-under-par. The South African, whose mother died two weeks ago, birdied 14, 15, 16 and 17 before rattling home an emotional par putt on the last and breaking down in tears on the edge of the green. The result also means that Waters will keep his Tour card for another year.

Paul Waring held a two-shot overnight lead and was two behind Lynn with three to play when he double-bogeyed the par-three 16th, ending his hopes of a maiden victory on the European Tour.

Scotland's Stephen Gallagher and Bernd Wiesberger of Austria shared third place on 16-under.
