Luke Donald wins Transitions Championship

Luke Donald recaptures the world number one spot with victory at the Transitions Championship in Florida.

Luke Donald has recaptured the world number one spot after winning the Transitions Championship in Florida.

The Englishman shot a final-round 66, which was good enough for a 13-under share of the lead at the Copperhead Course.

It only took one sudden death hole for Donald to claim the title after Jim Furyk, Robert Garrigus and Sang-Moon Bae had also finished on 13-under.

Furyk and Bae left both themselves with tough putts and were unable to effectively challenge, although both went close.

Garrigus almost holed his approach shot, which spun to the left, leaving him around six feet to the hole. However, he pushed his putt wide.

Some precision iron play had also left Donald six feet from the cup and he was able to take full advantage.

The result means Rory McIlroy's short-lived reign as number one lasted just two weeks.
