David Lingmerth edges out Justin Rose in three-hole playoff for Memorial title

David Lingmerth beats Justin Rose in a tense three-hole playoff to win the Memorial in Ohio for what is his first victory on the PGA Tour.

David Lingmerth edged out Justin Rose in a thrilling three-hole playoff to clinch victory in the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio tonight.

The duo both held par in the first two playoff holes - both on 18 - but the Swede pulled another out of the bag on 10 to secure a hard-fought maiden PGA Tour victory.

Lingmerth, whose final-round 69 saw him finish on 15 under, could have been forgiven for celebrating the win in regulation when Rose came perilously close to throwing it away.

The Englishman, who shot 72 overall, saw his hopes of a regulation victory dented at the last when he shanked a bunker shot that struck a spectator in the head.

However, the one-time Major winner, who sank five bogeys overall, salvaged par to force a playoff but Lingmerth emerged victorious.

The pair finished two strokes clear of Francesco Molinari and Jordan Spieth on 13 under, with Marc Leishman, Hideki Matsuyama and Jim Furyk one stroke back.
