Zach Johnson secures John Deere Classic title

Zach Johnson has won the John Deere Classic after beating Troy Matteson in a playoff in Illinois.

The former Masters champion looked to have wrapped up the title after posting a round of 65 in his final round but overnight leader Matteson made a late move to force a playoff.

An eagle at the 17th hole meant that Matteson joined Johnson on 20-under-par but he couldn't hole a birdie putt on the final green to secure a PGA Tour victory.

Both players failed to find the fairway with their drives from the tee on the first playoff hole with Matteson finding a wooded area and Johnson landing his ball in a bunker.

In an extraordinary few moments of golf, Johnson and Matteson found a lake with their respective second shots meaning the playoff continued as both players recorded a double bogey.

However, Johnson played a superb approach shot from the same bunker on the next hole to set up a birdie and Matteson could only make par to hand his opponent his second win of the season.
