Alejandro Canizares wins Trophee Hassan II

Alejandro Canizares wins Trophee Hassan II in Agadir, Morocco by five shots.

Alejandro Canizares has won Trophee Hassan II at Golf du Palais Royal in Agadir, Morocco by five shots.

The 31-year-old started the final round on Sunday six shots clear at the top of the leaderboard and showed no sign of any slip-ups as the day progressed.

Canizares bogeyed his second shot of the day, but recovered at the fifth, denying Seve Benson, who was in second place overnight, any room to take advantage of.

The Spaniard picked up further shots at the 10th and the 12th, and although another at the 15th was cancelled out by a bogey at the next, he eventually wrapped up the victory with a two-under 70.

"It's been a long time since the last one and felt like it was never coming," Canizares told Sky Sports News. "This week I played great, some of the best golf of my career.

"I hit good shots after good shots, kept the focus and it's a pity it ended like that but who cares. It's a special moment and I can't wait to get back home and celebrate with the family.

"Hopefully this is a step towards a little bit of improvement in my career I have some stuff to work on but hopefully I improve little by little to get to a point where I can play golf as natural as I did this week."

Benson eventually finished third in the tournament alongside Magnus A. Carlsson, two shots behind fellow Englishman Andy Sullivan.
