Tiger Woods reveals that money was a factor when choosing to play in the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Tiger Woods has admitted that the main reason for competing in the Abu Dhabi Championship is the fee that he will receive.

The world number 25 is expected to be paid just under £1m for appearing in the competition.

Woods, who usually performs on the PGA Tour instead of the Abu Dhabi Championship, concedes that financial gain was a factor in his decision.

The 36-year-old said: "I'd have to say yes. That's one of the reasons why a lot of the guys play the European Tour. The only place we don't get it is in the US. We off set it with our prize money which is pretty high. I think the average winner gets a million bucks a week and that's more than any other Tour."

The wiiner of the competition will receive nearly £300,000.
