Danny Willett ends a two-year wait for another European Tour title by winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrew's.

Danny Willett has collected his eighth professional title by winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrew's.

After a poor middle half to the year, Willett started the week having plummetted to 170th in the World Golf Rankings, a far cry from the 31st that he reached when winning the BMW Championship in 2019.

However, the Englishman capped a consistent week with a final-round 68, holing five birdies and dropping just one shot on the fourth hole.

Willett, who is also celebrating his 34th birthday on Sunday, finished two shots ahead of compatriot Tyrrell Hatton and Sweden's Joakim Lagergren.

Speaking after holing his winning putt, an emotional Willett told Sky Sports: "It has been a great week. It's obviously been a couple of years of average stuff, again. I do this a lot.

"We've been working hard. People don't see it behind the scenes. It's a good one."

Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood, who along with Hatton played in last week's Ryder Cup, finished in a tie for fourth and seventh respectively.
