USA lead in day one of Presidents Cup

USA have taken the lead at Royal Melbourne after day one of the Presidents Cup, despite Tiger Woods suffering his worst defeat in his career.

The Americans finished the day with a 4-2 lead with the only full point gained by the Internationals courtesy of Adam Scott and KJ Choi.

All eyes were on Woods as he came face to face with former caddie Steve Williams for the first time since sacking the New Zealander.

The former world number one and partner Stricker were hammered 7 & 6 by the Australian and Korean duo.

Opening pair Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson claimed the first point of the round as they destroyed South African Ernie Els and Japanese pro Ryo Ishikawa 6 & 7.

Phil Mikelson and Jim Furyk also had a successful day after whipping Retief Goosen and Robert Allenby 4 & 3.

Bill Haas, Nick Watney, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar claimed half points over their respective opponents.
