Jordan Spieth posts the 13th PGA Tour victory of his career by beating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff to win the RBC Heritage.

Jordan Spieth has ended over a year outside of the winners circle with victory at the RBC Heritage.

Helped by two early eagles and a birdie on the last, Spieth posted a 66 on Sunday, and although a number of players missed chances to join him on 13-under-par, Patrick Cantlay was able to match his American compatriot and join him in a playoff.

Cantlay missed a putt from 13 feet in regulation play to win the tournament, and luck was also not on his side in the playoff as his second shot ended up being plugged in the bunker.

While Spieth had also found the sand, he had a better lie and left himself a tap-in for par, and Cantlay was unable to match him to give Spieth his 13th PGA Tour success.

Ireland's Shane Lowry was one of seven players to end the tournament one shot off the lead, Australia's Cameron Davis also claiming that position after a final-round 63.

Despite not being able to build on his third-round 64, Tommy Fleetwood closed with a 68 to earn a share of 10th place.

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell tied for 21st, while world number two Collin Morikawa and Tyrrell Hatton were a shot further adrift in 26th position.
