Justin Rose: 'I had to be patient'

Justin Rose claims that a patient round on day one of the Tour Championship allowed him to share the lead in Atlanta.

Justin Rose has claimed that a patient approach allowed him to tie for the lead on the opening day of the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

A round of 66 from the Brit was only matched by Tiger Woods at the East Lake Golf Course and the 31-year-old believes that a conservative mindset was key to his success on Thursday.

Rose said: "I kind of looked at the leaderboards to gauge how the course was playing and how the boys were doing out there, and obviously I realised it was time to be patient.

"No-one was really going low. One or two under is going to be a good score today, so I always had that in the back of my mind."

World number on Rory McIlroy is three shots off the lead heading into the second day at East Lake.
