Poulter progresses at World Matchplay

Defending champion Ian Poulter has reached the last 16 of the World Matchplay Championship in Spain.

The Englishman claimed a 4&3 victory over fellow countryman Tom Lewis to top his group.

However, Lewis is also through to the next round following his win over Brandt Senden in Friday's morning session.

The 21-year-old will now face Sergio Garcia after the Spaniard's 4&2 triumph against Japan's Tetsuji Hiratsuka.

The three biggest casualties on Friday were Peter Hanson, Charl Schwartzel and Martin Kaymer.
